National Products Fair to Debut in Umuahia, Abia State, for 2026 Made in Nigeria Expo and Economic Forum By Made in Nigeria Project Office
The 2026 National Products Fair, featuring the Made in Nigeria Expo and Economic Forum, is set to take place in Umuahia, Abia State, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s drive to promote local industries, strengthen small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and expand national economic opportunities.
The event is scheduled to be held from September 21 to 25, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, bringing together manufacturers, investors, policymakers, exporters, and business stakeholders from across the country.
Organized by the Abia State Ministry of Industry and SMEs in partnership with the National Brand Development and Made in Nigeria Project Office, the fair is designed to serve as a national platform for showcasing Nigerian-made goods and accelerating industrial development.
Boosting Local Industry and SME Visibility
A major focus of the 2026 National Products Fair is the promotion of locally manufactured goods and services. The event will provide a structured platform for:
- Showcasing Nigerian-made products across multiple sectors
- Strengthening business-to-business (B2B) partnerships
- Expanding market access for SMEs and indigenous manufacturers
- Attracting investment into local production value chains
Organizers say the fair will play a critical role in enhancing the visibility of Nigerian enterprises and positioning them for both domestic and international competitiveness.
Positioning Abia as a Commercial and Industrial Hub
The hosting of the event in Abia State reflects the state’s growing reputation as a commercial and industrial centre in Nigeria, particularly in manufacturing clusters such as Aba.
The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts by the state government to formalize local markets, improve product quality, and strengthen export readiness for locally made goods.
Related Economic Development Initiatives in Abia State
The 2026 National Products Fair is part of a broader series of economic programmes aimed at transforming Abia’s industrial landscape:
Abia Domestic Trade Fair (Umuahia Expo 2026)
Organized by UCCIMA, this trade fair was held from April 10–19, 2026, at the BCA International Field in Umuahia. It focused on promoting local businesses and strengthening commercial networks across the state.
Aba Export Growth Lab
Launched by Governor Alex Otti at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, this initiative is supported by international development partners such as UNDP and UNIDO. It focuses on improving product quality, packaging, and export readiness in key sectors, including:
- Leather goods
- Garments and textiles
- Akwete traditional fabric
- Light manufacturing industries
AGOA Export Hub Initiative
The Abia State Diaspora Commission is actively working toward establishing an AGOA (African Growth and Opportunity Act) export hub in Aba. The goal is to expand access for Abia-made products into the United States market by improving compliance, standards, and export certification processes.
Driving Nigeria’s “Made in Aba” Industrial Identity
These initiatives collectively reflect a broader strategy to reposition Abia State as a leading industrial exporter in Nigeria. By focusing on value addition, product quality, and global market access, the state is building a stronger identity for “Made in Aba” goods in both African and international markets.
Conclusion
The 2026 National Products Fair in Umuahia represents a major step forward in Nigeria’s industrialization and local content agenda. By bringing together manufacturers, policymakers, and investors under one platform, the event is expected to strengthen SME growth, expand trade opportunities, and accelerate economic development in Abia State and beyond.
As Nigeria continues to promote a production-driven economy, initiatives like this underscore the growing importance of regional industrial hubs in shaping the country’s future economic landscape.
