Zamfara State Advances Automotive Industrialization with NADDC Training Centre Commissioning and Mechatronics Graduation Ceremony by Made in Nigeria Project Office

Zamfara State is set to witness a significant milestone in technical skills development and automotive industrial growth as the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), in collaboration with the Zamfara State Government and the Made in Nigeria Project, commissions the NADDC Automotive Training Centre (ATC), Gusau, and graduates 100 trained technicians from a specialized mechatronics training programme.

The event, scheduled for Thursday, June 11, 2026, marks another important step in Nigeria's drive towards industrialization, youth empowerment, and the adoption of cleaner transportation technologies.

Strengthening Technical Skills for the Future

The newly established NADDC Automotive Training Centre in Gusau is designed to serve as a hub for technical excellence, innovation, and workforce development within the automotive sector.

The centre will provide hands-on training and industry-relevant skills to young Nigerians, equipping them with the knowledge required to participate in the rapidly evolving automotive industry.

As Nigeria embraces alternative energy solutions and cleaner transportation systems, the demand for technicians skilled in modern vehicle technologies continues to grow. The training centre is expected to play a critical role in closing this skills gap while creating opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship.

Graduating 100 Mechatronics Technicians

A major highlight of the event will be the graduation ceremony of 100 youths and technicians who successfully completed a five-day intensive mechatronics training programme organized through a collaboration between NADDC and PADSON Group Nigeria Limited.

The programme focused on the repair and maintenance of petrol-powered and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tricycles and motorcycles, providing participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical technical skills.

The training emphasized:

  • Modern automotive diagnostic techniques

  • Repair and maintenance of PMS and CNG tricycles

  • Technical proficiency and safety standards

  • Cost-effective maintenance practices

  • Quality service delivery in automotive operations

The initiative aligns with national efforts to promote cleaner energy solutions while creating a skilled workforce capable of supporting the country's transportation and industrial sectors.

Supporting Nigeria's Clean Energy Transition

The growing adoption of CNG-powered vehicles has created new opportunities within Nigeria's automotive ecosystem.

As government policies encourage the transition from traditional fuel sources to cleaner and more affordable alternatives, the need for trained technicians capable of maintaining CNG-powered vehicles has become increasingly important.

The mechatronics training programme was specifically designed to prepare participants for this emerging market by providing specialized knowledge in the servicing and maintenance of alternative energy vehicles.

This contributes directly to Nigeria's broader clean energy transition agenda while supporting sustainable economic growth.

Promoting Youth Employment and Enterprise Development

Beyond technical training, the programme serves as a platform for youth empowerment and job creation.

By equipping participants with marketable skills, the initiative creates pathways for self-employment, entrepreneurship, and participation in the automotive value chain.

Graduates will be better positioned to establish workshops, provide maintenance services, and contribute to the growth of local automotive businesses within Zamfara State and beyond.

The programme also demonstrates how targeted skills development can address unemployment while supporting industrial growth.

Advancing the Made in Nigeria Agenda

The commissioning of the Automotive Training Centre aligns closely with the objectives of the Made in Nigeria Project, which seeks to promote local capacity development, industrial production, and indigenous innovation.

Technical skills development remains a critical component of building a competitive manufacturing and automotive sector. By investing in training and human capital development, Nigeria can strengthen local industries, reduce dependence on imported expertise, and enhance economic self-reliance.

The initiative also supports the broader National Brands Development agenda by creating a skilled workforce capable of supporting local production and industrial expansion.

Distinguished Stakeholders Expected

The event is expected to attract key stakeholders from government, industry, and the automotive sector.

Among those expected are:

  • His Excellency, Dauda Lawal, Executive Governor of Zamfara State

  • Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment

  • Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC)

  • Ibrahim Bello Marafa, Made in Nigeria Project Zamfara State Coordinator

Their participation underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in driving industrial development and skills acquisition.

Building the Workforce for Nigeria's Industrial Future

The commissioning of the NADDC Automotive Training Centre, Gusau, and the graduation of 100 trained technicians represent more than a ceremonial event. They symbolize a strategic investment in human capital, technology adoption, and industrial development.

As Nigeria pursues economic diversification and industrialization, initiatives that equip young people with practical skills will play a vital role in creating jobs, supporting innovation, and strengthening the country's productive capacity.

Through partnerships between government agencies, private sector organizations, and development stakeholders, programmes such as this are helping to build the skilled workforce required for Nigeria's automotive industry and the broader economy of the future.
