THE NATIONAL CENTRE FOR BRANDS DEVELOPMENT AND MADE IN NIGERIA PROJECT OFFICE, ABUJA – CONCEPT NOTE
PROJECT TITLE:
The National Centre for Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
This project provides national strategies for homegrown economic promotion, innovation, sustainable growth, entrepreneurship, and brand development programs.
Vision:
The National Centre for Brands Development, guided by the “Nigeria First Policy,” aims to transform Nigeria from a resource-dependent nation into a vibrant hub of production-oriented manufacturing, turning the population into a production nation—industrializing Nigeria.
Mission:
Promote local enterprise to foster a culture of self-belief, boost national pride, and instill confidence in Made in Nigeria goods, products, and services.
Goal:
Enhance the production, visibility, and consumption of Made in Nigeria goods, services, and brands.
Project Objectives
- Promote awareness and increase the consumption of Made in Nigeria products and services locally and internationally.
- Attract and facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) through trade exhibitions and economic forums.
- Reduce the importation of foreign goods by encouraging local production.
- Contribute to Nigeria’s GDP growth and job creation.
- Support national policies on industrialization, economic recovery, and diversification.
- Support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing resources and enabling growth.
- Enhance industrial competitiveness by encouraging product standardization to compete effectively in the global market.
Core Mandate of the National Brand Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project
- Promote economic transformation from a consumption-driven to a production-driven nation through local manufacturing and industrialization.
- Identify moribund factories and institute revival programs via Build, Own, Operate & Transfer (BOOT) and FDI methods.
- Support local products, brands, and production development.
- Implement a National Labelling System, Counterfeits Checks, Brands Surveillance, and Enforcement Program.
- Support development of national clusters and research development centers.
- Promote national products, brands, goods, and services through national and international trade fairs, expos, exhibitions, economic forums, and the National Products Gallery (NPG).
- Identify and introduce new national brand initiatives while promoting existing brands.
IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORK
i. National Secretariat
The National Secretariat will be established in Abuja under the supervision of the Permanent Secretary of Political and Economic Affairs in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), with responsibilities including:
- Collaboration with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the organized private sector, and development partners.
- Hosting and attending annual economic and investment forums and exhibitions locally and internationally.
- Driving investments and local manufacturing initiatives through Public-Private Partnerships.
- Creating economic community clusters for product originality and location identification.
- Coordinating and supervising activities and programs in regional and state offices.
ii. Regional Offices
Six regional offices will be established in North Central, North West, North East, South West, South South, and South East, reporting to the National Secretariat. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating regional exhibitions and capacity-building workshops.
- Liaising with local businesses, SMEs, and manufacturers.
- Collecting data and reporting on regional production and impact.
- Supervising activities of state offices within the region.
iii. State Offices
Each state will establish State Project Offices in collaboration with state governments to coordinate activities locally under the supervision of the National Office.
IMPLEMENTING BODY
The project will be implemented by the Made in Nigeria Project Office, Abuja, and overseen by the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs, OSGF.
PROJECT TIMELINE
- The project will run initially for five years (2025–2030), subject to review.
- Tenure for national, regional, and state officers is five years, renewable for a second term.
- The Project Technical Committee will transition into the Project Implementation Team at the project’s commencement.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION FRAMEWORK
A detailed M&E framework has been designed to track performance, assess progress, and guide decision-making.
