Libya Commissions Farigh–Brega Gas Pipeline, Boosting Energy Stability

Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has officially launched the first phase of the Farigh–Brega gas pipeline, a strategic project aimed at reviving and expanding the country’s energy infrastructure. This milestone represents a critical step toward ensuring reliable gas supply and reducing fuel shortages across Libya.

First Phase Details

The initial phase connects the Farigh gas field at the receiving point in the Zueitina axis (Field 103A) to the 42-inch pipeline extending from Zueitina to the connection point at kilometre 91 within the Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Manufacturing Company network.

Gas pumping operations have already commenced, with pressure balancing actively underway. The NOC confirmed that this section has been fully commissioned and integrated into the operating system, enabling gas from Field 103 to flow into the Sirte Company’s network in Brega and onward to the national coastal grid before the end of the month. This will materially boost supply volumes and strengthen the country’s energy distribution.

Strategic Impact

The Farigh–Brega pipeline is part of a broader NOC initiative to:

  • Increase gas production capacity across Libya.

  • Alleviate fuel shortages that have disrupted electricity generation and daily life.

  • Strengthen the national energy backbone as the hydrocarbon sector undergoes reconstruction.

Once the full corridor is completed, the pipeline is expected to significantly enhance Libya’s energy stability, support industrial and residential consumption, and underpin ongoing efforts to rebuild the country’s hydrocarbon infrastructure.
