Born on 1st October 1961 in Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State, Chukwuma grew up in a region celebrated for its entrepreneurial spirit. His business journey started in the early 1980s as a motorcycle spare-parts trader,  a humble beginning that laid a strong foundation for his future empire.

His sharp observation that Nigerians overpaid for foreign imports sparked a revolutionary idea: Why import what we can produce locally?

From Spare Parts to Manufacturing: The Innoson Evolution

In 1981, he founded Innoson Nigeria Ltd, dealing in spare parts and tires.
By 1987, the company transitioned into importing unassembled motorcycle parts and assembling them locally, cutting costs and giving Nigerians affordable mobility solutions. This move disrupted the “tokunbo” motorcycle market.

In 2002, Innoson expanded into plastic manufacturing to support its growing production lines, proving the founder’s long-term vision of building a strong local value chain.


The Birth of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM)

In 2007, Chukwuma established Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd., and by 2010, Nigeria witnessed the production of its first set of locally manufactured vehicles, designed specifically for African roads, climates, and economic realities.
