Promoting Made in Nigeria Goods and Services: A Key to Sustainable Economic Development
The Nigerian government has once again emphasized the importance of supporting and promoting locally made products and services as a fundamental pillar of the country’s economic growth and sustainability. This call was made at the Regional and State Coordinators Conference of the Made-in-Nigeria initiative, held in Abuja, where government officials, project leaders, and key stakeholders gathered to strategize for the future of Nigeria’s economic development.
Strengthening Collective Efforts for Economic Growth
Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, the Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Office and Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Political and Economic Affairs Office, reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing the Made-in-Nigeria project. He was represented at the conference by Musiliu Oladunjoye, the Director of the International Organisation Department, who emphasized the importance of collaboration, innovation, and capacity building in driving the success of the initiative.
“This conference is a crucial step in our journey towards economic growth and development, which aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” Oladunjoye stated. The event marked a significant moment in Nigeria’s efforts to unlock the potential of local businesses, entrepreneurs, and industries that can contribute significantly to the nation’s economic prosperity.
A Movement to Boost Nigeria’s Economic Fortune
George Nwabueze, the National Coordinator of the Made-in-Nigeria Project, stressed that the initiative is far more than just a slogan; it is a movement with the potential to transform Nigeria’s economic fortunes. He called on Nigerians to take pride in supporting homegrown products and services, crafted by talented artisans, entrepreneurs, and innovators across the country.
“This initiative is a celebration of Nigerian creativity, resilience, and the vast potential that lies within our borders,” Nwabueze remarked. He went on to remind everyone that the world is watching and the future belongs to those who are committed to building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria. By embracing this movement, Nigerians can make their country proud and contribute to its transformation into a thriving, self-sufficient nation.
Overcoming Cultural Bias Toward Foreign Products
Barrister Promise Ogadinma Mbani, the Eastern Coordinator of the Made-in-Nigeria Products, identified one of the major obstacles to the growth of the “Made in Nigeria” initiative—the cultural preference for foreign products. This mindset has often led Nigerians to overlook locally produced goods in favor of imported alternatives.
To address this challenge, Mbani advocated for the registration, standardization, and widespread promotion of Nigerian products and services. This, he argued, will not only boost local patronage but also open up new avenues for Nigerian businesses to expand beyond the country’s borders.
“There is a need to educate, sensitize, and create awareness among Nigerians about the importance of supporting local products,” Mbani emphasized. Such initiatives will go a long way in changing consumer behaviors and making the Made-in-Nigeria initiative a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic future.
Inauguration of State Coordinators
One of the key highlights of the event was the inauguration and presentation of State Coordinators for the Made-in-Nigeria project. These coordinators will play a pivotal role in ensuring the initiative reaches all corners of the country, fostering greater engagement and commitment to the promotion of locally produced goods and services.
Conclusion: A Call to Action
The Made-in-Nigeria initiative represents a unique opportunity for the country to harness its vast human and material resources to achieve economic independence and growth. By shifting focus toward homegrown solutions, Nigeria can create a thriving ecosystem that benefits entrepreneurs, consumers, and the nation as a whole.
As we move forward, it is essential that all Nigerians, businesses, government agencies, and individuals take pride in supporting and promoting local products. Together, we can build a stronger, more self-reliant economy and pave the way for a brighter future. The world is watching, and it’s time for Nigeria to shine.
